Out of all of the awards shows the Oscars are my favorite. I’m a little late posting this for last weekend’s Oscar viewing party, but now you’ll be all set for ideas when you throw an Oscar party in 2018. Ha! In all seriousness, these party ideas can be used for any film or Hollywood party you throw. So follow along for some fun and easy ideas to throw an Oscar themed party.
Throw an Oscar party full of glitz and glamour
The prestige, the elegance, the glamour… I dig it, which is why I decided to infuse my party with gold and black elements for a dramatic look.
Oscar Party Table
Like all my party setups, I like to create a spectacular table scape that will wow guests when they enter. I love using my front console table for this because the front door opens right into it.
Oscar Party Decorations
While this might look like there is a lot going on, I actually kept it quite simple because I usually don’t have a ton of time to actually put it all together (though I do mull things over in my head for quite some time). Do you do the same?
Oscar Party Backdrop
I knew that I wanted a large party backdrop as I just love the look and so I had this printed at Staples as an Engineering Print. Just recently I heard that Staples might be upgrading their printers and will no longer be able to print out engineering prints in this way (which technically it was never meant to be used for this purpose, but some crafters are pretty genius! I was pretty excited when I heard about this little trick from others!)
I designed the backdrop based off of this Oscar Invitation available in my Etsy shop:
If you’ve been following along with my parties, you might know that I love to reuse party decorations. You can see these paper fans used in my Noon Years Eve Party. I got them from My Mind’s Eye and they definitely add the glitz and glamour I was going for with the gold foil and sparkle.
Oscar Party Signs and Other Decor Details
I found that Cinema ticket sign at Hobby Lobby, and the little Director’s Clapboard sign at Oriental Trading. I also picked up the star garland, hanging at the top of the backdrop, and the movie projector centerpiece, displayed on the bottom shelf of the console table, at Oriental Trading. I’m not sure how well the cardboard movie projector will save, it might be one of those one-time use items, but for $6.00 it makes for a very cute party decor item. Oriental Trading has a ton of movie themed decoration items to choose from.
Oscar Party Tissue Tassel Bunting
The tissue tassel bunting is from the Target dollar spot during New Years. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the Oscar shape on gold glitter card stock. To attach the statues to the string on the bunting, I simply taped the back across the string.
OMG, I love how these little statues turned out! I also made some tiny Oscar statue confetti that I threw around on the table. I’m thinking I will offer both sizes in my Etsy shop so let me know if you are interested.
“And the Oscar Goes to” Cutout
I am still trying to get the hang of my Silhouette Cameo, but I’m so proud of this little cutout I put together. It would make for a great cake topper too. Using the same fonts as the backdrop, I welded the letters together in the Silhouette design software and cut it out on glitter card stock.
Oscar Party Food and Drink
I kept the food very simple for this event: Popcorn, cake pops, and champagne. I displayed the popcorn and champagne on my tiered tray. which I love using for events.
These tuxedo popcorn boxes from Oriental Trading were perfectly regal for a night at the Oscars or any movie night themed party. I popped my own corn with kernels and it tasted very fresh and delicious. You could take this one step further by offering fun popcorn toppings.
For the champagne, I created these little tags to hang on the mini champagne bottles. They had the following phrases:
- “Best Dressed”
- “Saw all the movies”
- “Saw none of the movies”
- “Best Actor”
- “Best Actress”
Oscar Party Cake Pops
This was my first attempt at making cake pops and I was a little nervous. I followed the recipe from Bakerella.com. I think the recipe and instructions worked well overall. I was hesitant with the frosting and actually used less than I probably should have. Using the candy coating and dipping the cake balls in was the hardest part. I also didn’t get a styrofoam block to dry them on, so I just had them cake ball down instead. To top them off, I used Candyfetti by Sweets Indeed to top off the cake pop with a little bling. The mix I used was “Celebrate.”
They were nowhere near perfect but I think they turned out pretty good.
Oscar Party Ballot
Finally, an Oscar party would not be complete without an awards ballot. I found this one from theeverygirl.com. I’m pretty certain they put one together every year, and this one matched my theme perfectly.
I hope you got some ideas from this to throw an Oscar party or film party yourself. I had a ton of fun styling this Oscar party and am already thinking about what I want to do next year.
