Set up a dinosaur excavation site with The Big Egg and free dinosaur dig-up printables.
It’s no lie my oldest is very fond of dinosaurs. We’ve had a three-rex dinosaur third birthday party and one year our holiday card was all about the dinosaurs.
We have also decorated our home with this dinosaur home decor and wrapped Christmas gifts with these dinosaur gift tags.
When Mindware gave us the opportunity to test out their Dig it Up! The Big Egg activity, we jumped at the chance. We love any and all dinosaur activities for kids.
This dinosaur activity would be so much fun for a birthday party, a play date, or simply a Saturday at home as we enjoyed it.
I also took it as an opportunity to create some fun dinosaur printables that I’m sharing with you today for free.
Set up the dinosaur excavation site
It only takes a few minutes to set up this dinosaur-digging activity.
Have your kiddo suit up in the vest that comes with this Excavation Kit and grab their own dig pass badge, which you can download below and customize with their name by filling in the form fields with Adobe Reader (free software).
You might have an old conference badge lying around, but if not you can get these vertical badge holders and lanyard online or at a local office supply shop.
The “Excavation Site” sign and the “Party Like a Dinosaur” sign add some additional rawr-some vibes to the activity.
You’ll want to place down some newspaper or use a tray because this activity is a little messy! I liked the little mat that came with the Excavation Tools set.
The dinosaur egg itself comes with a chisel, but I recommend getting the extra tool set or the full Excavation kit.
Once you soak the egg in water for 5 minutes, you can start excavating.

Such a cute idea! I love everything about this!! I would love to snag these printables for my son’s upcoming dinosaur dig birthday party, but they aren’t in your library. How can I access them?
