Free 4th of July printables storyboard featuring straw flags and a printable banner from Elva M Design Studio

Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays, and these free 4th of July printables have been a reader favorite for years. We usually have a BBQ with family or friends, grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers, play lawn games, and enjoy some cold drinks. It’s always fun to decorate for the holiday, and honestly, our patriotic colors make the easiest color palette to work with. Whoever did the branding for the United States did a great job.

I designed a set of 4th of July printables you can download and print at home, and styled them on my backyard potting table for the easiest, prettiest setup. No big budget, no fuss, just red, white, and blue done right.

Keep reading for how I styled it, plus the patriotic sangria recipe I made to go with it, and grab the free printable set for yourself at the bottom of the post.

What you’ll love about this party:

  • The free printable set does all the heavy lifting. Sign, Straw flags, and banner, and the whole setup goes from bare table to full-on patriotic in under ten minutes.
  • It’s a backyard potting table, not a dining table. Proof that you don’t need a tablescape to pull off a great 4th of July display, a side table or bar cart works just as well.
  • The sangria was made to be made ahead. A pitcher recipe means you’re not stuck behind the bar all afternoon, which is the whole point of a holiday.
  • Mini clothespins make the banner foolproof. No measuring, no string-stringing headaches, just clip and stagger until it looks right.

The Potting Table Setup

I’d recently gotten a new potting table for my backyard, and it turned out to be the perfect canvas for 4th of July decor. It has a couple of top shelves, a big bottom shelf, and a wire back that’s great for hanging things, which is exactly what made this whole look come together.

On the front, I hung an inexpensive Flag bunting for instant patriotic color without much effort at all.

That wire back on the table became the perfect spot to hang the printable banner. Taking inspiration from America, The Beautiful, the bright colors and oversized flags look great clipped right to the wire, staggered however I wanted with a set of mini clothes pins.

America, The Beautiful

by Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Most banners require you to thread your string, twine, or ribbon through hole punches. Instead, use mini clothes pins to hang your banner in minutes.

4th of July Straw Flags

Straw flags are one of my favorite DIY party decor details, and they’re genuinely this easy: download the free printable, print it on card stock, cut out each flag, and attach it to a decorative straw with a dot of adhesive. That’s it.

It gets hot in Minnesota fast once summer hits, and the 4th of July almost always lands on one of those high-80s, high-humidity stretches. I wanted a drink I could make ahead so I wasn’t stuck in the kitchen or behind the bar all afternoon, because there’s nothing worse than missing your own party.

This Rosé, White, and Blueberry Sangria was the answer: patriotic in color, refreshing in a glass, and done well before guests arrive. Full recipe is over on the Rosé, White, and Blueberry Sangria post.

I served it in oversized acrylic wine glasses (found at HomeGoods, similar set linked), since nobody wants broken glass at an outdoor holiday party.
