4th of July Utensil Holder

Last week I shared printable straw flags and a 4th of July banner, and I’m back this week with even more 4th of July table decor ideas, because once I start a theme, I cannot stop.

This time I’m focused on the table itself: an easy DIY utensil holder you can put together in an afternoon, and a free printable 4th of July sign that pairs perfectly with the rest of the America, America! set. I wanted a table setting that felt pulled-together without requiring a trip to five different stores, so almost everything here comes from supplies you can grab in one stop (or already have in a drawer).

Keep scrolling for the full table setting, the step-by-step on the utensil holder, the printable sign, and the free download that ties the whole thing together.

What you’ll love about these printables:

  • The DIY utensil holder costs almost nothing to make. Red and white striped wrapping paper and a sheet of cardstock are doing all the heavy lifting here, so you’re not buying single-use party supplies you’ll never use again.
  • It mixes real dinnerware with paper plates. You don’t have to choose one or the other. Topping an everyday dinner plate with a paper plate gets you the patriotic pop of color without packing your cabinets full of seasonal dishes.
  • The centerpiece is just a vase of flowers and wood letters. No floral foam, no big craft project. If you can find a vase and a “USA” letter set, you can recreate this in ten minutes.
  • The 8×10″ sign does double duty. Frame it for the table, prop it on a shelf, or use it as part of a larger 4th of July vignette around the house.
  • Everything in this post is part of one free printable set. You’re not piecing together decor from three different posts. Sign up once and the utensil holder, the sign, and the rest of the America, America! collection land in your inbox.

4th of July Table Setting

Whether you’re hosting outside on the patio or pulling the table inside out of the heat, a well-put-together table setting is what takes a 4th of July gathering from “we ordered food” to “this feels like a party.” I always start with what’s already on hand and build out from there.

For summer gatherings, paper plates make cleanup so much easier, and I love that you don’t have to give up your everyday dinnerware to get a festive table. Here I paired my regular dinner plates with a paper plate layered on top, so you get the red, white, and blue without committing to a full seasonal place setting.

You could go all the way with real dinnerware, stick entirely to paper plates, or mix and match the way I did. There’s no wrong answer, just whatever’s easiest for your particular gathering.

Decorations don’t need to be complicated to feel intentional. I paired a simple vase of flowers with “USA” wood letters, but the real star of this table setting is the place setting itself. It’s the little details, the utensil holder, the layered plates, stacked together that make the whole table read as festive rather than thrown together.

DIY 4th of July Utensil Holder

This little utensil holder is the detail that makes people ask where you got your table decor, and it takes about five supplies to make.

Just a few supplies

How to put it together

  1. Cut the wrapping paper into rectangles to create a simple striped place mat for each setting.
  2. Print the utensil holder file on cardstock. I printed one set double-sided with the blue star background showing (you’ll see it assembled below), and printed the second set single-sided so the backside stayed plain white. Gotta save on printer ink where you can.
  3. Fold at the bottom of the blue star section so it creates a pocket.
  4. Glue the edges, and once they’re secure, slide in a folded napkin and your utensils.

That’s it. No special tools, just cardstock, glue, and a few minutes per place setting.

I love these wood utensils for this table. They’re versatile enough that I’ve reused them again at other parties, including this Lumberjack 1st birthday party.

America, America! 4th of July Party Sign

Rounding out the table is a little 8×10″ sign that’s so easy to download, print, and pop in a frame that there’s really no excuse not to decorate.
